Ningo-Ghana, June 19, CDA Consult – According to the Department of Gender, young women must not enter the apartments of males who send them on an errand and then ask them to leave the item in their room on their return.
Madam Matilda Banfro, the Department of Gender’s acting regional director for Greater Accra, raised this issue during a mentoring project for teenage girls in the Ningo-Prampram District.
“It must not be accepted because it gravely threatens human rights and way of life if showing respect for an elderly person would endanger one’s life,” she said.
She claims that some of the elderlies have changed; when they phone and request that you buy anything or bring something into their room, they are actually setting a trap for you; once you enter their room, they will compel you to sleep with them.
Madam Banfro gave teenage girls instructions to quickly notify their parents and other authorities of any such events so that the law might take proper action against the culprits.
She emphasised that it was completely immoral for men to exploit a woman’s indecent attire as justification to rape her in an effort to degrade her.
She emphasised that the support requirements and vulnerabilities of boys and girls growing up in wealthy and underprivileged communities are distinct, which is why the department is working to increase public awareness of these issues and find solutions.
According to Madam Banfro, a deeper understanding of the impact of this socially unacceptable behaviour is vital for the growth of peaceful, cohesive, equitable, and productive communities.
She also challenged parents to take responsibility for recognising their children’s challenges, disparities, and assistance requirements.
