Abesim (B/R)-Ghana, July 11, GNA – The World Vision International reaches one new person with clean water every 10 seconds globally, Mr Yaw Attah Arhin, the WASH (Water, Sanitation and Hygiene) Technical Coordinator, World Vision Ghana (WVG), a non-government organisation has said.
Accordingly, Mr Arhin said WVG had prioritised water and sanitation and re-affirmed its commitment to widen and improve access to potable drinking water and basic sanitation in the country.
He said that would enable the organisation to attain its aspiration of enhancing the general well-being of children and achieving WVG’s vision of achieving “life in all its fullness to every child” irrespective of their locations and settlements.
Mr Arhin made the announcement at the opening session of the Master Encounter (semi- final) of the 2023 on-going School Sanitation Solutions (Triple-A) Challenge held on Tuesday at Abesim, near Sunyani.
The WVG, in partnership with the Kings Hall Media Limited, Ghana Education Service, Ministry of Sanitation and Water Resources and Zoomlion Foundation is organizing the challenge which seeks to encourage children to cultivate interest in issues of environmental sanitation.
This is to further motivate the children to become sanitation conscious and agents of change, building their capacities to co-create sustainable solutions to sanitation challenges around them, and empowering them to influence policies, advocate the removal of barriers and promote improved access to basic education.
Mr Arhin explained the WVG believed nothing could be more important to children well-being than access to sustainable water, sanitation and hygiene services because they remained foundational for quality healthcare, poverty reduction, improved education, and boost socio-economic development.
He explained the WVG with support from the government and other development partners had introduced several measures including the challenge, all towards improving safe drinking water and sanitation, saying “we believe that when you have access to these ingredients, your life and well-being improves.”
Touching on the challenge, Mr Arhin said from almost 2,000 valid entries received across the country, 10 contestants selected from seven regions would be competing at the Northern Sector contest for two slots in the grand finale slated for August 13, 2023, at the National Theatre as part of the Children Sanitation Fair.
Two contestants have already been selected from the southern sector for the grand finale.
