Keta (VR)-Ghana, June 15, GNA – Madam Dora Kugbonu, a Health Promotion Officer of the Keta Municipal Health Directorate in the Volta Region, has urged residents within the enclave to donate blood to help save precious lives.

Madam Kugbonu said this on Wednesday, during the commemoration of ‘World Blood Donation Day’ which was held at the Keta Municipal Health Directorate with the aim of educating the public on the importance of blood donation.
She revealed that donating blood voluntarily had benefits, such as giving identity to donors and their families for free blood at any hospital whenever they also needed similar opportunity.
Madam Kugbonu further urged members of the general public to embrace voluntary blood donation in order to reduce the burden on people suffering from TB, Malaria, HIV/AIDS, Cancer, liver and heart problems and pregnant women who may need blood to survive.
“Each and everyone of us can visit any hospital anytime to donate blood to save a life,” she added.
She also encouraged the youth to donate as long as they remained strong and healthy.
“When you get to the hospital to donate, you would be tested first to check your health status and others.”
World Blood Donation day is celebrated on June 14 every year to advocate for blood and educate the general public on its importance.
The theme for this year’s exercise was “Give blood, give plasma, Share life, Share often.”
