Kumasi-Ghana, Sept. 08, GNA – Chris Hughton, Black Stars Head Coach, says Ghana could have won with more goals in yesterday’s final group match against their counterparts from Central African Republic.
“For me it is always about the ending and the ending was that we won the game, but I think we could have won it more comfortably with more goals,” he told the media at a post-match interview at the Baba Yara Stadium.
He said the technical team would continue to work to improve the team, saying that the national team squad could change from one game to another hence it was important to devise strategies for continuous improvement.
The level of African football, he said, had increased hence finishing on top of the group was a feat that could not be downplayed.
Responding to questions on whether his team was strong enough to compete with the ‘big boys’ in Africa at the AFCON, Hughton said building a solid team was a process and also pointed out that the team missed some key players.
Jordan Ayew who captained the team to book their place at the biennial competition, said they had to play above themselves to win the match after conceding the first goal in front of home fans.
“In football sometimes it does not always go the way you want and we knew couldn’t have given up with about 70 minutes to play so we had to fight back to get the results we needed,” he said.
He said he still had a lot to offer the national team considering his age and was always ready to make Ghana proud together with his team mates.
