As part of activities marking Ghana’s 68th Independence Anniversary, the Volta Regional Coordinating Council (VRCC), in collaboration with Zoomlion Ghana Limited and the Ho Municipal Assembly, has organised a clean-up exercise at the Ho Airport.
The exercise, held in the early hours of March 6, brought together various stakeholders, including security agencies, staff of VRCC, Ho Municipal Assembly officials, Environmental Health Officers, and other volunteers, who dedicated their time and energy to cleaning the premises.
The clean-up exercise was in response to the President’s directive to reduce costs associated with the anniversary celebrations, encouraging sanitation-focused activities instead of large parades in some regions.
The exercise saw enthusiastic participation from various groups, including personnel from the Ghana Police Service, Ghana Armed Forces, Ghana Immigration Service, National Fire Service, and staff of the Ghana Airports Company Limited (GACL).
Volunteers swept, weeded, collected waste, and desilted gutters around the airport and surrounding areas, ensuring the environment remained clean and welcoming.
Participants in the exercise stressed the need for regular clean-up activities beyond special occasions.
They encouraged citizens to take responsibility for their surroundings and ensure that their communities remained sanitary and environmentally friendly at all times.
The 68th Independence Anniversary, celebrated on the theme: “Reflect, Review, and Reset,” served as a reminder that national development goes beyond celebrations—it requires collective responsibility and practical actions such as environmental conservation and cleanliness.
Officials from the VRCC expressed gratitude to all participants and stakeholders for their dedication and encouraged other organizations and individuals to sustain the momentum in maintaining cleanliness throughout the region.
