The visit, which took place at the Regional Coordinating Council in Ho, also served as a platform for the Association to share progress on key initiatives and explore collaborative opportunities in the areas of healthcare, agriculture, and community development.
Leading the delegation, Dr. Kwaku Appiagyei, highlighted one of their flagship projects — the “Planting for Health” initiative — a 10-acre agro-based project located around Adaklu.
The initiative aligns with the national agenda of encouraging increased citizen participation in agriculture, while also addressing food security and promoting healthy lifestyles.
“We believe that good health is deeply connected to food and the environment. This project is our contribution to ensuring that healthcare begins with what we eat,” Dr. Appiagyei stated.
In a strong show of partnership, the GMA also pledged GH₵30,000 to support the “Water for All” initiative, spearheaded by the Regional Minister.
The project seeks to expand access to clean and safe drinking water, especially in underserved communities across the Volta Region.
Dr. Appiagyei described the pledge as a gesture of their commitment to the holistic development of the region, adding that the health of the people cannot be achieved without access to clean water.
The Association also briefed the Minister on their quarterly tourism and wellness programmes, which are designed to promote mental health among medical professionals and the wider community.
These programs include visits to tourist sites within the Volta Region, fostering relaxation, networking, and mental rejuvenation.
Mr Gunu commended the GMA for their forward-thinking approach to health and wellness and expressed admiration for their unique blend of professional service and community outreach.
“I’m truly impressed by the scope of your activities – from agriculture to mental health and infrastructure support. This is the kind of proactive collaboration we need to drive development in the region,” he said.
The Minister expressed optimism about deeper collaboration with the GMA and pledged to support their upcoming events, including the Annual Awards Night scheduled for June 7.
“I look forward to attending your Awards Night and celebrating the men and women who keep our region healthy.
“Your efforts are deeply appreciated, and I am confident that together, we can make a real difference,” he added.
The meeting ended with a renewed sense of partnership and a shared vision to strengthen healthcare delivery, promote wellbeing, and advance development across the Volta Region.
