Adidome (V/R)-Ghana, Oct. 26, GNA – The Food and Drugs Authority (FDA) office in the Volta Region, has held a blood donation exercise at the Adidome Senior High School as part of its Corporate Social Responsibility.
The exercise recorded 130 participants and collected 123 pints of “life-saving” blood.
Mr Gordon Akurugu, the Volta Regional Director, FDA, said blood was not a commodity that could be purchased in the market but willingly giving by a donor, urging the public to endeavour to donate blood to save lives at critical times.
It had been observed that individuals who fell within the O-negative blood group were not many in the region, he said, and called for more people to willingly support the blood donation campaign.
Mr Akurugu said the Authority would continue its partnership with schools and other institutions to support crucial initiatives that benefited society at large.
He said the blood donated would go a long way in saving lives and reiterated the FDA’s dedication to serving the public’s interests in every possible way.
He commended the school administration and students for their willingness to donate blood and save lives.
Mr Kennedy Mensah, a Supervisor at the Ho Teaching Hospital Blood Bank, disclosed to the Ghana News Agency that the exercise was conducted in strict adherence to safety protocols, ensuring the health and well-being of the donors.
“Medical professionals and support staff were on hand to facilitate the process and provide assistance when needed. So everything was under control.”
He said supplements were given to the students, who donated blood, to help them to regain their lost blood.
Some donors said they were happy to donate blood to save lives, while entreating their mates from other schools across the region to emulate same to prevent scarcity of blood in hospitals.
