Sunyani-Ghana, March 6, GNA – Madam Justina Owusu-Banahene, the Bono Regional Minister, has emphasised the need for Ghanaians to promote unity as the driving force for prosperous nation-building.
She said the need for a united front was important to building a healthy state, notwithstanding the nation’s socio-political pluralism.
Madam Owusu-Banahene made the call at the Bono Regional celebration of Ghana’s 66th Independence Anniversary, on the theme: “Our Unity, Our Strength, Our Purpose,” held at the Jubilee Park in Sunyani on Monday.
She explained that considering the present global economic circumstances and their consequential impact on the country’s socio-economic progress, the theme was, thus, a clarion call for nation-building.
Unity in diversity means being tolerant of each other’s views and opinions by accepting constructive criticisms.
She, therefore, expressed optimism that with the right conduct and high sense of patriotism, coupled with effective and efficient utilisation of available resources “we will surely build the Ghana we are all looking for”.
The parade comprised 1,209 security personnel, teachers, students and cadet corps with Captain Christle Konadu Odame from the Third Battalion of Infantry (Three Garrison) as the parade commander.
264 officers and men comprising six contingents from the Ghana Army, Police, Immigration, Fire, and Prisons Services, and the Customs Division of the Ghana Revenue Authority participated.
A total of 945 students and teachers from 15 Primary and 15 Junior High schools, 10 Senior High Schools (SHSs) and five school cadet corps from the public and private sectors were also present.
The Three Garrison Forces School was adjudged the best school in the march past for the primary group, Ebenezer Presbyterian JHS won the JHS category, and St. James Seminary/SHS topped the SHS category.
Madam Owusu-Banahene presented a prize to Sunyani SHS for winning this year’s national Independence Day quiz competition.
