Takoradi-Ghana, Dec. 29, GNA – twenty–five aspirants have successfully filed their nominations to contest in the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) upcoming parliamentary primary in the Western Region.
After close of nominations on Monday, December 25, a total of 23 males and two females had submitted their forms to contest in the nine constituencies where the Party has sitting Members of Parliament (MPs) in the Region.
Mr George Mireku Duker, the current MP for Tarkwa-Nsuaem, is being challenged by Mr Gordon Opoku Boateng and Mr Francis Elliason.
Mr John Agyare, Ahanta West Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), Mr Francis Eric Pobee, Mr Benedict Appau and Mr John Kwesi Yankey have filed to contest at Ahanta West Constituency.
Mr Alex Kofi Agyekum and Mr Philip Asirifi Cobbina are contesting Mr John Kobina Abbam Aboah Sanie, the incumbent MP for Mpohor Constituency.
For Kwesimintsim Constituency, Dr Prince Hamid Armah is seeking re-election against Dr Yaa Pokuaa Baiden, Deputy Chief Executive Officer of National Health Insurance Authority, while Mr Joseph Cudjoe, the current Effia MP is running against Mr Isaac Boamah Nyarko.
Those contesting at Takoradi Constituency are; Mr Kwabena Okyere Darko-Mensah, Western Regional Minister, and incumbent MP for the area, Mr Frederick Sam-Incoom and Mr Richard Essuman Addison.
At Sekond Constituency, the contest is between Mr Andrew Egyapa Mercer, the current MP for the area, and Mr Benjamin Paa Kwasi Moses, while Essikado-Ketan has Mr Charles N. O. Cromwell Bissue, Ms Anna Horma Akaisie Mieza, Deputy Director-General of National Lottery Authority, and Mr Giovani Osei Tutu as contestants.
The rest are Mr Samuel Ericson Abekah, the current MP for Shama, Mr Joseph Amoah and Mr Isaac Kwamena Afful contesting in the Constituency.
Mr Okatakyie Amankwaa Afrifa, the Western Regional Secretary of the NPP, told the Ghana News Agency (GNA) that a date would be set to vet the aspirants before the main elections scheduled for January 27, next year.
