Ada-Ghana, June 1, CDA Consult – The Total Woman Network (TWN), a non-governmental organisation located in Teshie, has provided sanitary pads to schoolgirls in Ada West District as part of the celebrations commemorating Menstrual Hygiene Day.
Girls from Tehe Primary and Junior High Schools, as well as Ma Davunu Junior High School, both in the Greater Accra Region’s Ada West District, benefited.
The schoolgirls were also taught about period hygiene, including how to properly use sanitary towels and maintain good menstrual hygiene, as part of the remembrance and cleanliness.
The goods were delivered by Miss Edna Quartey, Founder of Total Woman Network, who urged the girls to be comfortable with their menstrual cycle.
She emphasised that most females are unaware of their menstrual cycle and how it affects their hygiene.
She praised Regal Roofing Company’s Chief Executive Officer, Mr. Bismarck Dodoo, for warmly supporting the TWN programme as part of the company’s corporate social responsibility.
She encouraged the government to reconsider the proposed sanitary pad tariffs, claiming that these young girls are already unable to purchase them, let alone pay additional taxes that would increase their expenses.
She went on to suggest that they would benefit much from knowing about menstrual hygiene.
She also encouraged the government not to tax sanitary pads, but rather to make them more affordable.
Some of the students praised Total Woman Network for their generosity and encouraged other organisations to do the same.
