Miss Rebecca Apesti, a heart patient on Thursday, appealed for public support to undergo an open-heart surgery.
Clinical evaluation and investigations conducted by specialists at the Cardiothoracic Center (NCTC) of the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital confirmed one that one of her heart valves (mitral valve) is severely defective.
Specialists, therefore, require US$8,000 dollars for Apetsi, 34 years old, to undergo open-heart surgery to replace the defective aortic valve.
Speaking in an interview with the Ghana News Agency (GNA) in Sunyani, Ms Apetsi who however, appeared healthy said her condition was gradually worsening because she could feel some reactions in her body system.
“It’s sometimes difficult for me to breathe, walk and even eat. I have realized I kept growing lean and even the cough is becoming unbearable now,” she stated.
Ms Apetsi said she travelled from Tamale to seek assistance and therefore appealed to the public to come to her aid before conditions deteriorated.
An enclosed letter signed by Dr Innocent Adzamli on behalf of Dr Lawrence A Sereboe, the Director NCTC explained, “this amount caters for the cost of further investigations, surgery anaesthesia, intensive care and boarding for a maximum period of two weeks”.
It is therefore recommended that all payments ought to be addressed to the NCTC.
