He said due to the shift system some of the pupils became recalcitrant and failed to take part in school activities.
He said the shift system also contributed to sometimes the poor performance of the pupils at the Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE), especially those who portrayed truancy during the period.
“This new classroom block will help end shift system in the Tema Metropolis as well as improve the quality of education,” he noted.
Mr. Ashitey stated that the school has well-trained teachers to help the pupils learn hard to produce good academic results this year as compared.
“Tema Manhean Presbyterian Basic School will now run a normal academic system without the shift this will offer the teachers the opportunity to effectively monitor the pupils as well as enhance training for positive productivity,” he stated.
Mrs. Bernice Ofori, Tema Metropolitan Education Director who was elated about ending the shift system in Tema Manhean commended the Assembly, the MCE, and the chiefs for their support.
Mrs. Ofori noted that “this initiative will help boast quality education as the pupils will get access to well-equipped facilities such as Library, ICT Lab, and a sound environment to improve learning skills”.
“I believe strongly this year the pupils will produce good results in the BECE because they will be trained well and every pupil will focus in class because the shift system has ended,” she said.
Mrs. Ofori urged parents to ensure their wards are punctual to school and encouraged the teachers to instill discipline among pupils during class hours to earn good results in their academics.
Mrs. Ama Cobblah and Mrs. Florence Nyarko Baidoo, Headmistresses of the Manhean Presbyterian Basic School “A” and “B” respectively expressed their gratitude to the entire Tema Metropolitan Assembly for making their dream a reality.
