Tamale SOS Hermann Gineiner School won the Web Project, followed by Asiakwa, Kumasi, and Tema. The first-place winners received a gold medal and a trophy.
Gabriella Yayra Taylor, Team Lead of Tamale, told the Ghana News Agency in Tema that everyone could code, and encouraged young ladies to do it as well, rather than leaving it for the boys.
Nana Abeiku Graham, Team Lead, Tema SOS, on the scratch project, said coding was relatively simple if one followed the instructions.
He said initially he found it a bit difficult, but perseverance enabled him to code.
Mr Alexander Mar Kekule, the Country Director, SOS Children’s Villages, said the schools were excited to work with adjacent schools to help children better themselves for the future.
“Teaching children only reading and writing is insufficient for our digital age. Therefore, it is necessary to educate them on certain digital skills…to make meaningful contributions to the world,” he said.
