The New Church School emerged second with 81 points, and Baatsona Junior High School placed third with 74 points.
Teachers and pupils expressed their joy at the achievement, with many attributing their success to teamwork, dedication, and the support of school authorities.
The annual Independence Day celebration, held on the theme: “Reflect, Review and Reset,” saw eight schools from across the municipality participating in the parade to mark the historic occasion.
Mr. Isaac MacCarthy-Mensah, Tema West Municipal Director of Education, praised the participating schools and their teachers for their commitment and dedication, noting that despite the limited time for practice, the schools were able to train their contingents effectively, leading to their impressive performances.
He said despite the short notice given for preparation, students of Sakumono School Complex ‘2’ showcased discipline, precision, and excellent coordination during the parade, earning them the top position among participating schools.
“The school that won, everybody is in support of this judgement because at times when you announce the overall winner, you see people coming to oppose it, but this one everyone is in support of that Sakumono School Complex JHS is the winner; we will encourage our schools to prepare very well so that next year’s will be more challenging.”
The parade was attended by government officials, education stakeholders, parents, and residents of the Tema West Municipality.
He encouraged students to take pride in their country and remained disciplined in their academic and personal lives, noting that education played a crucial role in national development, and urged students to work hard to contribute positively to society.
“We’ve been winning the presidential award, but last year we didn’t get it. I’m expecting that in the upcoming BECE, we will emerge as a winner and join in the celebrations of the presidential award.”
Three students in the municipality, including the best girl in the Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE), the best boy in BECE, and the overall best in the West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE), were awarded for their 2023 academic performance.
