A youth group affiliated to the National Democratic Congress (NDC) at Tohazie, on Tuesday, stormed the Party’s Regional Secretariat in Tamale and locked up the office in protest of the arrest of the Party’s Regional Vice Chairman.
They demanded the immediate release of Abdul Hamid Alhassan (popularly known as Alhaji Gbewaa), the Northern Regional Vice Chairman of the NDC, from Police custody.
When the Ghana News Agency visited the NDC Regional Secretariat at midday, there were armed Police officers and their vehicles stationed around the office.
Alhaji Gbewaa turned himself in to the Police on Monday, following a complaint of assault against him.
He was said to have allegedly assaulted Hajia Shamima Yakubu, the Northern Regional Treasurer of the NDC at the weekend, following a disagreement during a Regional Executive meeting at the Party’s Secretariat in Tamale, to decide on a campaign strategy for the general election.
