“The world has, indeed, lost a good man with his passing.
“His empathy and humanity resonated deeply across borders, leaving a legacy of hope and healing in places far from his homeland, including Ghana,” the President noted in a tribute posted on his Facebook page.
The 39th President of the United States, Jimmy Carter, reportedly passed away on Sunday at the age of 100, after being in hospice care since February 2023 at his home in Plains, Georgia.
The international cable news network, the CNN, reports that: “Carter led consequential foreign policy initiatives that still endure today, including a Middle East peace deal between Israel and Egypt, the normalisation of relations with China that the Richard Nixon administration initiated, and the signing of treaties that gave Panama eventual control of the Panama Canal from the US.”
In 2002, the former U.S. President was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize for his dedication to finding peaceful solutions to international conflicts and promoting democracy, human rights, and social and economic development.
His passing has sparked an outpouring of condolences from global leaders, who have recognized his lifelong contributions to society.
President Nana Akufo-Addo remarked: “Through the Carter Center, his tireless efforts to eradicate guinea worm disease provided significant relief to numerous communities in our country.”
“Beyond his humanitarian work, President Carter’s devotion to democracy and human rights resonated deeply with our nation, reflecting his belief in the shared values that bind us all.”
He described Jimmy Carter as a relentless advocate for the underprivileged and a devout, God-fearing man, offering heartfelt tribute to the former President for his humility and unwavering dedication to making the world a better place.
“To the Carter family, and to President Joe Biden, the Government and people of the United States of America, I, on behalf of the people and Government of Ghana, extend our heartfelt condolences.
“May his soul rest in perfect peace in the Bosom of the Almighty until the Last Day of the Resurrection when we shall all meet again. Amen, the President prayed.
Meanwhile, the US Government has announced that the funeral for former President Carter will be held on January 09, next year, at the Washington National Cathedral.
