Madam Ophelia Mensah, wife of the murdered Member of Parliament (MP) for the Mfantseman Constituency, who secured the seat upon the death of her husband, has lost it to the National Democratic Congress (NDC).
She polled 24,099 votes compared to the 36,989 the winner, Dr Prince Ebenezer Arhin of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), polled to snatch the seat from the incumbent MP.
The results indicated a high increase in votes for the NDC in 2016 when Mr Aquainas Tawiah Quansah won with 25,412 votes.
Mr. Samuel Kwesi Yamson, the Returning Officer who announced the certified results, said the total ballots cast was 61,824 with 1,895 rejected ballots.
A total of 99,130 people were expected to vote in the 128 polling stations in the Constituency.
In the Presidential race, the NDC polled 37,419 votes as against NPP’s 21,138 votes.
Dr Arhin in an interview with the Ghana News Agency, expressed profound gratitude to the electorates of Mfantseman for the support and confidence reposed in him.
He pledged an open door policy and collectively work with everyone to improve the lives of the people of Mfantseman.
Dr Arhin asked the people to unite to help the NDC transform lives and provide adequate development to the constituents for the betterment of all the constituents.
