The Ghana Police says it bore the cost of Oliver Barker-Vormawor’s hospitalisation contrary to claims that he was returned due to lack of funds to cover his bills.
“The Ghana Police Service has noted with concern recent social media publications suggesting that the Police Hospital returned accused person, Oliver Barker-Vormawor, to Police custody due to lack of funds to cover his medical expenses.”
“We would like to emphasise that every cost associated with his visit to the Hospital was borne by the Ghana Police Service in line with our Standard Operating Procedures with respect to suspects in our custody,” a statement from the Police said.
The Police alleged that the claims were “palpable falsehoods which is part of the numerous attempts aimed at courting public sympathy.”
The statement said the Police was unable to share the evidence regarding the medical expenses due to doctor-patient confidentiality.
It said the accused person was not rushed to the Hospital, as falsely claimed.
