A nine-member executive board of the Ghana Registered Nurses and Midwives Association (GRNMA) has been inaugurated in the Upper East Region, to stir the Association’s affairs for the next four years.
The executives who were inducted into office by popular acclamation, included Mr Emmanuel Tibil Panzin, as Chairman, Mr Kombian Bisianin, First Vice Chairman, Mr Salifu Moses Duut, Second Vice Chairman, Mr Francis Wuni, Secretary and Mr Joshua Azongo, Assistant Secretary.
The rest were Mr Desmond Yaani, Public Relations Officer (PRO), Mr Anoyas Musah Iddrisu, Assistant PRO, Ms Scholastica Akuntugiya, Treasurer and Ms Paschalina Anupio Ayirezang, Assistant Treasurer.
Mr Bernard Anankor, the Chairman of the Election Committee, who inaugurated the new executives, commended the immediate past leadership of the Association, led by Mr Thomas Lambon for their contributions to the progress of the Association.
He congratulated the newly inaugurated executives and urged them to play their respective roles diligently to the benefit of members in the Region, saying, some members in the past, took up executive positions but “slept on the job,” and still received allowances for no work done.
He, therefore, entreated them not to betray the trust and confidence reposed in them by the members and to work hard to propel the Association to higher heights.
Mr Anankor, who is the Region’s Chief Nursing and Midwifery Officer, admonished them to work together in unity, to ensure a formidable Association and rope-in splinter groups within the nursing and midwifery professions.
Dr David Tenkorang-Twum, the General Secretary of the Association, said as part of efforts to bring the splinter groups within the nursing and midwifery professions to the ‘Mother Association,’ the GRNMA national leadership invited the groups to dialogue on the need to have one Association, but the initiative yielded no positive results.
He said instead of members breaking away to form different Associations, it was more prudent for them to join the ‘Mother Association’ and help to push it forward.
The General Secretary said “People don’t respect Ghana Medical Association and Ghana Bar Association because they are Doctors or Lawyers, but it is because they are united. If we are united, we will be stronger than them.”
He encouraged the new executives avoid using their respective offices to lord on members, saying “Be humble and continue to serve our people during the mandate period. This is a privilege position that your compatriots have reposed in you to serve.”
He called on members of the Association in healthcare facilities in the Region and across the country to prioritise patients and their relatives in the care they rendered.
On behalf of the new executives, Mr Panzin thanked the leadership and members of the Association at the Regional and National levels for the confidence reposed in them to stir the affairs of the Association in the Region.
He said their mandate was to implement the five-year strategic plan of the Association, led by its President, Mrs Perpetual Ofori-Ampofo.
The Chairman said the strategic plan which would end in December 2024, had five thematic areas namely; leadership and governance, education and research, communication and campaigns, welfare and health policy influence.
