Kumasi-Ghana, Nov. 09, GNA – Sixty-one persons have filed to contest for various regional executive positions of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the Ashanti Region during the upcoming regional elections.
A total of 1,500 delegates are expected to participate in the elections scheduled for November 12 and 13, this year, in all the 47 constituencies in the region.
Fifteen positions – Chairman, Vice Chairman, Secretary, Deputy Secretary, Treasurer and Deputy Treasurer-are up for grabs.
The others are the Regional Organizer and Deputy, Youth Organizer and Deputy, Communications Officer and Deputy, Women’s Organizer and Deputy, and Zongo Caucus.
The regional elections promise to be exciting since no aspirant has been cleared to go unopposed.
Mr Augustus Nana Akwasi Andrews, the incumbent regional chairman, is facing a stiff contest from Mr Evans Amankwah, a legal practitioner, and Mr Yaw Owusu Bimpeh, former Regional Chairman of the party.
Mr Andrews told the Ghana News Agency that he was not perturbed, looking at the work he had done in the region since he became the chairman and was hopeful the delegates would give him another mandate to continue with the good works.
The Secretary position is being contested by Safo Duku, a legal practitioner, Frank Amoakohene, Richard Ofori Agyeman Boadi, former MCE for Obuasi, and Mathew Kwadwo, the incumbent deputy secretary.
The incumbent Communications Officer, Abass Nurudeen, will be facing a tough contest from his deputy, Asafo Adjei, who has sworn to unseat his boss.
The women’s organizer position, like the communications officer position, is a straight fight between the incumbent, Gloria Huze and her deputy, Frances Kedu Yeboah.
