Tema-Ghana, June 2, CDA Consult – Nana Ama Kufuor, daughter of former President John Agyekum Kufuor, has described a media publication that placed her among some key NPP officials who are said to have endorsed Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia’s bid for the NPP flagbearership position as incorrect and falsely identifying her as a member of the said delegation.
Nana Ama Kufuor, who emphatically said she was not even aware of the alleged endorsement meeting, called the publication “false, a misrepresentation of my personality, or probably a simple mistake of identity that must be corrected.”
“The publication falsely identifies me as a member of the said delegation. It is the first time I have heard of this. I was not there and was not part of any delegation. I am not an NPP official,” Nana Ama Kufuor stated in reaction in a telephone interview.
Meanwhile, media information indicates that a similar publication was published in June 2022 and was attributed to former President John Agyekum Kufuor as endorsing Vice President Bawumia.
The former President’s office, through a statement issued by Dr. Kwabena Osei-Adubofuor, who is his spokesman, denied the endorsement.
The statement explained that the ex-president, as a statesman and former leader of the party and country, has a very close relationship with all of the aspiring candidates and would throw his full support behind anyone elected to serve as the party’s flagbearer ahead of the 2024 elections.
As a result, he advocated for “fair and un-engineered systems and processes that would lead to a fair selection of our next NPP flagbearer” by the party hierarchy.
“This should be free of coercion and machinations so that the eventual chosen nominee, arising from the uncompromised freewill of the voting delegates, can easily command the support and respect of all party faithful, as well as other Ghanaians sympathetic to our cause of ‘breaking the eight.”
