He said officials of NADMO would begin flood disaster sensitisation programme within areas to be affected in the event of spillage of excess water from the Akosombo Dam.
“We need to raise awareness on the equal importance of non-structural measures such as social responsibility and a sense of community resilience in flood risk management in the Oti Region,” he noted.
Mr Kumah made this known during an engagement with ad-hoc parliamentary committee set up by the speaker of parliament to uncover the truth and provide justice to the affected communities members whose properties were destroyed by last year’s spillage.
He said that NADMO officials would educate community members likely to be affected about the importance of having designated safe havens during a disaster.
He again explained that the officials would sensitise the residents about the causes of flooding and how to prevent it, emphasizing that improper waste disposal such as dumping garbage in the gutters significantly contributed to flooding.
