Accra-Ghana, Oct. 6, CDA Consult – Transparency International local chapter in Ghana, Ghana Integrity Initiatives (GII), awarded Mrs. Linda Ofori Kwafo, a former executive director, for her distinguished service to Ghana and decades of consistent leadership in the fight against corruption.
The current Board Chairman, Reverend Dr. Emmanuel Kwabena Ansah, presented the recipient with a citation that said, “GII applauds your meritorious contribution to the fight against corruption and the significant contributions you made to the organisation” at a brief but stunning ceremony in Accra.
“Today, September 29, 2023, we honour you because you have shown what it means to be a dedicated, committed, and—most importantly—a person of integrity via your words and acts.
“We will remember you for the good job you did on GII. Thank you for supporting the growth of GII and the general fight against corruption, Ayekoo.
Mrs. Ofori-Kwafo ascended through the ranks to become the Executive Director of GII in March 2016 and held that post for seven years before resigning in June 2023, according to a brief biography of her that was made available to the public.
During her time as Executive Director, she participated in numerous well-known organisations and was elected to the board of Transparency International (TI), according to the profile.
She was the first woman from sub-Saharan Africa to hold a position on the TI Board since its founding in 1999.
Mrs. Kwafo serves as the Office of Special Prosecutor’s (OSP) current board chair.
Mrs. Elsie Bunyan, the former board chairwoman, was also honoured by GII for her assistance in directing the board, management, and staff to successfully carry out the anti-corruption entity’s purpose.
The governing board of GII had Mrs. Bunyan as its chair from December 2019 until December 2022.
Prior to being chosen board chair, she supported the organization’s strategic direction while serving as vice chair of the board.
GII welcomed Mrs. Bunyan as a member on September 9th, 2009. She was chosen to join the organization’s board in April 2013.
Mrs. Mary Awelana Addah, the newly appointed executive director, was sworn in during the event and introduced to the organization’s stakeholders.
Representatives from the Institute for Democratic Development (IDEG), Ghana Centre for Democratic Development (CDD-Ghana), Legal Resources Centre, Globethics Ghana, some members of the Diplomatic Corps, and media experts were present at the event.
Along with academia, the National Commission for Civic Education, the OSP, the Commission on Human Rights and Administrative Justice, and the STARGhana Foundation.
