The cancellation, which was announced by government to save cost, has left some residents feeling disappointed and others relieved.
Some residents, particularly students and traders, who were looking forward to the celebrations, which typically include parades, cultural performances, and food sales.
They expressed disappointment at the cancellation, citing the loss of income and entertainment opportunities.
“We were expecting to sell some food and drinks today but now we have to look for other ways to make money,” Madam Joycylen Yaa Agbodza and other food vendors added.
Others, however, welcomed the cancellation, citing concerns about the cost of hosting the celebrations and the potential disruption to daily activities.
Another section of the residents expressed e view that parading students under the scorching sun for Independence Day celebration was a waste of time.
Mr. Peter Kwasi Osei, another resident, echoed similar sentiments “I don’t see the point of making students stand in the sun for hours just to celebrate Independence Day, it’s a waste of time and energy. ”
