Pastor Emmanuel Kusi Appiah, the Ahafo Regional Youth Director of the Seventh-day Adventist Church (SDA), has urged members of the Church to allow their ‘inherent’ faith to decide for them whether to vote or not on December 7.
He said though the Election Day December 7, fell on a Sabbath, a sacred day for the Church, the SDA was not against members voting as a civic right, however, the electorates “must allow their faith to decide for them”.
Speaking at a peace campaign organised by the Church at Mim, in the Asunafo North Municipality of the region, Pastor Appiah said, “the SDA has resolved not to open its Church premises that serve as polling stations to obstruct the voting process and defile the sanctity of the Sabbath too”.
Mr Osei Yaw Boahen, the Asunafo North Municipal Chief Executive, stressed the Assembly’s readiness and commitment to deploy security personnel to maintain law and facilitate peaceful elections.
Mr Evans Opoku-Bobie, the incumbent New Patriotic Party Member of Parliament (MP) and the party’s Election 2024 Parliamentary Candidate (PC) and Mr Haruna Mohammed, the NDC PC took turns to address the campaign and pledged their commitment towards facilitating violent-free elections in the constituency.
The peace campaign brought together political party supporters and members, religious bodies, associations and youth groups and other stakeholders.
