Keta (VR)-Ghana, July 12, GNA – Torgbui Ashiagbor IV, Paramount Chief of Weta Traditional Area has urged members of the public to promote and develop the youth through sporting activities.
He said several talents were lost due to the unavailability of fund and support for sports men and women.
Torgbui Ashiagbor disclosed this during the closing ceremony of the 58th edition of the annual Southern Zone Inter-school sports and festival co-hosted by Keta Senior High Technical (KETASCO) and Keta Business Senior High schools (Busco).
“We can also produce the likes of Lionel Messi, Ronaldo, Essien, Asamoah Gyan, if only we encourage, support and promote our young ones through sports,” he said.
Torgbui Ashiagbor, who represented Torgbui Akamu V of Anlo Afiadenyigba as chairman of the occasion, noted that the progress of the next generation remained the responsibility of all “since sports can equally change the fortunes of the country in many forms.”
He also commended all teachers and the organizers of the tournament and urged them to do more.
He commiserated with the KETASCO and family of the late 2021 National Maths and Science Quiz contestant, James Lutterodt.
Togbui Akamu, as part of his contributions to the event, supported all the 10 schools who participated in the event with one set football Jersey for each team.
Mr Simon Kpewu, Secretary of the Association expressed appreciation for the offer and promised they would unearth more talents in the area for a brighter future.
KETASCO, however, emerged as the overall Champions with KetaBusco and Zion College placed as 2nd and 3rd respectively.
Other schools include Anseco, Afiasec, Anyasco, Aborsco, Tsiamesco, Atiasec and Voltasco.
Some of the sporting disciplines included football, volleyball, basketball, table-tennis, handball, netball, and athletics.
