The unity games, according to the organisers, is to create a platform to preach and promote peaceful coexistence among the youth before, during and after the 2024 December 7 polls.
Mr Edem Kpodo, the NDC Youth Organiser at Keta, told the Ghana News Agency in an interview that the other aim is to create awareness and inculcate into the youth peaceful co-existence ahead of the general election.
“We all know this year’s election is crucial and we need to bring all youths together under the same umbrella of peace since some bad politicians would always want to engage youth in violent acts,” he stated.
Mr Kpodo noted that the tensions created around the elections were very high and all stakeholders, heads of institutions, politicians among others should begin preaching peace to prevail in the election.
He said that NDC was a peace-loving party and would never support any form of havoc stressing that the best means to bring youth together was through games and the party was poised to organise the games in all the 22 electoral areas within the constituency.
“We have divided these 22 electoral areas into 6 groups and the winners of each group will qualify to the next stage and the venues include Ketasco, Vodza RC park, Anlo-Afiadenyigba, Abor, Tsiame.”
He expressed high hope that all youth within the area would participate fully in the games which would include football, sack-race, volleyball and other indoors games among both sexes to prioritise and campaign for peace.
Mr Gabriel Dzikunu, the Assembly Member for Keta Central Electoral Area, and Mr Wilson Tonyewonya, who are also the organising committee members told the GNA that the competition was open to all political parties, and it was not limited to only NDC.
They urged all to, as a matter of urgency, be involved in the competition which commenced on Sunday, October 27 at all venues.
Some various party youths GNA engaged expressed joy over the move and urged the public to get involve for a peaceful election 2024 and for better future.
Four candidate which include Mr Kwame Dzudzorli Gakpe,the incumbent Member of Parliament on the ticket of the NDC, Mr Goldberg-Grimm Hope Lekettey of New Patriotic Party (NPP), Mr Yayra Kwashie Kwaku of Liberal Party of Ghana (LPG) and Mr Stanley Dugah, an independent candidate would however contest for the Keta parliamentary seat in the elections.
