Tema-Ghana, Aug. 08, – “Regular medical health screening is a very important stage in medical practice to help identify if one is at risk of having any disease that needs earlier detection and treatment to enhance a better health outcome.
“Screenings are medical tests that doctors use to check for diseases and health conditions before there are any signs or symptoms, and she stressed the need for Ghanaians to develop a culture of visiting health facilities for general screening.
“Screenings help find problems early on when they may be easier to treat; it is one of the most important things you can do for your health,” Ms. Nancy Abedi, a Dialysis Nurse at the International Maritime Hospital (IMaH) at Tema, has revealed.
Ms. Abedi has therefore encouraged Ghanaians to cultivate the habit of regular medical screening, which helps in identifying any incubating disease and dealing with it at the earliest stages.
Ms. Abedi was speaking on the topic “kidney disease” advised that health screening or regular check-ups must be done at least once or twice a year and urged people over 40 years to limit their intake of salt and sugar and avoid excessive fatty and carbohydrate foods to help keep the body in good shape and help maintain a healthy body.
The IMaH Dialysis Nurse noted that every average adult needs to partake in health screening sections, “whether you feel healthy at all times or have a family history of any disease such as hypertension and diabetes, among others”.
She also advised people to be conscious of what they consume: “Let us eat a healthy diet to live a healthy life.
On the benefits of having a positive lifestyle, the IMaH Dialysis Nurse explained that it involves regular physical activities and avoiding smoking and alcoholism.
Ms. Abedi also encouraged people to drink at least two litres of water daily and eat a well-balanced diet, which will boast the body and enhance its well-functioning.
