Tema-Ghana, July 20, GNA – Divisional Officer III, Mr. Ebenezer Yenzu, Public Relations Officer, Tema, Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) Tema Regional command says the service’s move to intensify sensitization and education in the country is yielding positive results.
He said the GNFS has, for some time now, intensified its awareness-creation efforts in the various communities across the country to reduce fire outbreaks as well as teach them ways of controlling outbreaks.
Mr. Yenzu said that the outfit had helped reduce the cost of salvage, including injury, loss of life, and property, which is of great benefit to the country.
He stated that there had been instances where community members had come together to quench or control the fire before the service team could get to the location, stressing that these were due to the knowledge that had been impacted on them.
“The cost of salvage is now going up because the people are equipped with how to put out the fire, so there is no damage that could have occurred in waiting for the fire service to come in before the fire is extinguished.
“This time they are taking measures to curb the intensity of the flame before the fire service comes in,” he stated.
Mr. Yenzu added that the reception towards the fire service personnel right from the beginning of the outfit was not encouraging; however, due to persistence and encouragement, people were now opening their arms and welcoming them to be acquainted with the dos and don’ts during a fire outbreak.
“The reception is very warm, and we don’t have that cold reception like it used to be, so we can now commend the people in the community that they are doing well, which we can do by inviting us to come and educate you,” he stated.
He commended the media for their support in education and sensitization processes and cautioned Ghanaians to be safety conscious and open their arms to receive the requisite knowledge on fire-related issues to save the country from the ruins of a fire outbreak.
