Tema-Ghana, Oct. 31, – Many New Patriotic Party (NPP) members in Tema West, Tema East, Tema Central, Kpone-Katamanso, Ada, and Ashaiman have appealed to party delegates in the November 4th conference to spread the vote among the contenders in order to trigger a real showdown between the two front-runners for flagbearer position.
“After the November 4th contest, we pray for a real showdown between Mr. Kennedy Agyapong, Member of Parliament for Assin North, and Alhaji Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, Vice President,” stated the NPP members.
Members of the NPP stated in a random interview with newsmen that it would be in the party’s and the prospective flagbearer’s best interest to go through a strict process and win in order to break the eight in the elections 2024.
“It will be a miscarriage of justice if we fail to go for the real showdown,” stated Mr. Isaac Boakye of Tema West. On November 4th, we want the delegates to make sure that no candidate receives 50% plus one.
“We have to go for run three; we want to go for the real showdown where we will see the man out of the boy,” Mr. Boakye stated, referring to the Super Delegates Conference in August and the rehearsals on November 4.
In terms of this nation’s progressive development, there is no other option except the NPP. Mr. Dominic Owusu, who is also from Tema West, said, “NPP is a large family working towards a common goal of transforming this country through creating prosperity and equal opportunity for all.
“We call on the delegates to give a well-tested flagbearer to break the eight.”
Tema East’s Mr. Oduro Kwarteng stated that “we must not elect the potential flagbearer on a silver platter, but through vigorous runs, we must go for round three, which we have all tagged as the real showdown, when stakes are high and supply becomes very expensive.”
Mr. Kwarteng stated, “We must not be afraid to test the power of our Election 2024 machinery through a rigid election process. The NPP is our party enshrined in democratic credentials.”
Newsmen were informed by Mr. Isaac Amo, a resident of Kpone, that the NPP would need to test its electoral method in order to break the eight.
“We cannot minimise the importance of the electoral process, regardless of the existence of a system candidate. The first elections, in which there were four instead of 10 candidates, marked the beginning of a journey.
“There ought to be another chance on November 4 to cut the pitch from four to two for the championship match. The main objective of politics is to unite people behind a common cause and united front in order to secure votes.
The vice president Bawumia versus Assin North MP Kennedy Agyapong matchup received more NPP backing from Ada and Ashaiman.
In the meantime, the party is dedicated to making sure that the November 4 primaries are free, fair, and legitimate and that the party will win the polls, regardless of who emerges as the candidate, according to Professor Michael Oquaye, Chairman of the NPP Presidential polls Committee.
The candidates are Mr. Kennedy Agyapong, MP for Assin North; Dr. Owusu Afriyie Akoto, former Minister of Agriculture; Mr. Addai Nimo, former Mampong MP; and Vice President Alhaji Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia.
