Kpone-Ghana, Jan. 1, MNN – In 2023 the Lord your God is the one who goes across ahead of you like a devouring fire. He will destroy them; he will subdue them before you. And you will drive them out and annihilate them quickly, as the Lord has promised you.
Catechist Isaac Agbo, Catechist of Presbyterian Church of Ghana, Trinity Preaching Post, Kpone-Katamanso Municipality who made the declaration noted that there would be challenges and obstacles in 2023 but God would give his people the strength to overcome all.
Preaching at the December 31st Watch Night and Crossover Service organized by the church, Catechist Agbo quoted scripture verses from the book of Deuteronomy 9:1-4.
“Hear, O Israel: Thou art to pass over Jordan this day, to go in to possess nations greater and mightier than thyself, cities great and fenced up to heaven, a people great and tall, the children of the Anakims, whom thou knowest, and of whom thou hast heard say, Who can stand before the children of Anak!
“Understand therefore this day, that the Lord thy God is he which goeth over before thee; as a consuming fire he shall destroy them, and he shall bring them down before thy face: so shalt thou drive them out, and destroy them quickly, as the Lord hath said unto thee.
“Speak not thou in thine heart, after that the Lord thy God hath cast them out from before thee, saying, For my righteousness, the Lord hath brought me in to possess this land: but for the wickedness of these nations the Lord doth drive them out from before thee”.
Focusing on the theme: “Crossing Over” Catechist Agbo urged the church to pay attention to God’s word because serving God comes with obedience, stressing “obedience comes with paying attention therefore as we crossover, pay attention to God’s word and he will drive your enemies away”.
Catechist Agbo noted that in spite of the potential challenges and obstacles in 2023 God would go ahead of His people like devouring fire, and destroy all the enemies – (obstacles and challenges) if only his people will pay attention and trust him.
He encouraged all to be true to themselves so that God will help them, and encouraged Christians and Ghanaians that “God will lead us through 2023, all we have to do is to trust God”.
As part of the Service, the congregation offered prayers of thanksgiving and gratitude to God to grant the leaders and all other officials strength to continue the good work in the nation.
At midnight, the congregation burst into joyful songs amidst the shouts for joy and dancing to welcome 2023.
