Shai Osudoku (GAR)-Ghana, July 22, GNA – The Golden Exotics Limited, a subsidiary of Group Compagnie Fruitiere headquartered in France Marseille, has refurbished Kasunya Community Health Centre in the Shai Osudoku district of the Greater Accra region.
The ultra-modern refurbished health facility is worth GHC550,000 and formed part of Golden Exotics’ Corporate Social Responsibility commitment to promote and ensure good health and well-being across all divides without discrimination in the area.
By this gesture, Golden Exotics Limited would be leading a change and contributing to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goal Three.
The Chief of Kasunya, Nene Narh Yobo Otutoto Akakposu V, in a speech read on his behalf, commended the Golden Exotics for the numerous developments it brought into the area.
He said the refurbished facility would go a long way to save lives in Kasunya and its environs.
He, therefore, appealed to the company and other stakeholders to consider constructing the road, which is currently in a deplorable state, to enhance access to quality health care in the facility.
Mr. Mark Achel, the Corporate Affairs Manager of the company, said: “We believe investing in the health of the people in the area is a wise thing to do as a company.”
He said, it was because the health of their stakeholders was paramount to the operations of the company in the catchment area, therefore as a company, they will continue to support the Kasunya community in several ways for sustainable development.
The Managing Director of Golden Exotics, Mr. Benedict John Rich, said refurbishment was timely as it coincided with their 20 years of establishment on the Kasunya Land.
He said the company since its establishment had employed about 4,000 workers, giving sustainable livelihood to many in the Shai Osudoku Traditional area and its surrounding districts.
Golden Exotics has since provided potable drinking water, built and renovated some classroom blocks and teachers’ and health officers’ accommodation, donated to the Kasunya Scholarship fund, among others.
Mr Rich pledged their preparedness to do more to impact the lives of the people in the area.
He called on the Chief and people of the community to continue to collaborate with the company to sustain the developments.
The District Health Director, Rev. Dr. Ebenezer Asiamah, also expressed gratitude to Golden Exotics Limited for the kind gesture and lauded the Medical Superintendent of the Golden Exotics Clinic, Dr. Andre Kofi Davids, for his instrumentality and advise, which yielded result.
Dr. Farida Abdulai, Acting Deputy Director, Public Health, Greater Accra Region said, the health facility would be beneficial to all and most especially boost the morale of the hard-working and dedicated health officers, who hitherto were working and administering health service under trees and home services in the community.
Some nursing mothers at the facility expressed gratitude to Golden Exotics Limited for the timely intervention to curb the challenge of being beaten by rain while accessing health care under trees.
As the largest fruit producer in Ghana with not less than 90,000 tons of bananas (70,000 tons of conventional and +20,000 tons of bio), Golden Exotics is poised to promote exemplary working conditions throughout its entire value chain to ensure sustainable healthcare amongst its workers and their families.
Also present at the commissioning of the health facility, were Ivan Van Dessel, the Quality Control Manager, Lesley Desanfans, the Production Manager, Geraud Tirresse, the Operations Manager, Mr. Francis Amanortey, the Community Relations Officer for Kasunya.
Others include Mr Johnson Megbeawotor, the Community Relations Officer for Togome, a suburb of Kasunya and Mr John Mensah Bossu, the Assembly member of the Kasunya area.
