The meeting was also to promote teamwork and introduce the personnel to the operations of the GNA, and what was expected of them during their service period.
Mr Eric K. Amoh, Northern Regional Manager, GNA, addressing the meeting in Tamale, emphasised the need for all the personnel to remain professional and distinguish themselves through hard work.
The personnel, who have backgrounds in journalism, media studies and social change communication, were from the University for Development Studies, Tamale Technical University, and the Institute of Business Management and Journalism.
Mr Amoh urged them to demonstrate effective news gathering and reporting skills, conduct themselves professionally, and exhibit unique and identifiable behaviour that distinguished them from other journalists.
He expressed optimism that by the end of the service period, the personnel would gain valuable experience and skills in news reporting enabling them to make meaningful contributions to society.
The Regional Manager told the personnel that arrangements would be made to take them through orientation to enable them familiarise with the GNA house style and traditions, adding that critical area for consideration at the orientation would be election reporting in anticipation for coverage of the 2024 general election.
Mr Albert Futukpor, Editor, GNA, Tamale office, encouraged the personnel to uphold GNA’s standards, emphasising need for discipline and hard work.
The personnel thanked the Regional Manager and his team for the good working environment and helping them settle down well at the office.
Miss Rahina Abdulrahman, one of the service personnel, expressed delight at the meeting, saying she expected to learn a lot from the staff to hone her journalistic skills.
