Prampram-Ghana, Nov. 12, MNN – Residents of Ningo-Prampram District have been sensitized to join the fight against corruption as its impact on Ghanaians affects all, Mr. Michael Boadi, Ghana Integrity Initiatives (GII) Fund-Raising Manager who was the lead facilitator said, citizens, have a role to play in ensuring corruption and its related issues were dealt with in the country.
He said huge sums of state funds that could have been used to develop the country mostly go unaccounted for, stressing that citizens should look beyond their political parties and report issues on corruption to the appropriate bodies.
He explained that citizen participation in monitoring and demanding accountability from public officers would aid in the fight against corruption.


Mr. Boadi stated at a day’s citizen’s engagement forum at Ningo-Prampram organized by the GII a local chapter of Transparency International (TI) in collaboration with the Ningo-Prampram District Directorate of the National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE).
The forum was to equip the residents with the needed knowledge required to report corruption and corrupt officials operating within the various facets of the economy as well as introduce them to the all Inclusive Services Delivery Africa (ISDA) project.
Mr. Boadi added that stakeholders including the NCCE have a major role to play in educating the citizen on their rights and the rightful means to exercise such constitutional privileges.
Mrs. Petra deGraft-Johnson, GII Officer In charge of the Advocacy and Legal Advice Center (ALAC) noted that the center serves as a platform for citizens to report cases of corruption as they witnessed it.
Mrs. deGraft-Johnson added that the center provides free and confidential advice and supports victims and witnesses of corruption adding that, they also encourage and support people to access public information and demand transparent response and accountability from government institutions.
The GII and NCCE set up a 13-member Social Auditing Club (SACs) for the Ningo-Prampram District to aid in ensuring public officeholders were accountable to the citizens.
