Issa (UW/R)-Ghana, March 6, GNA – Dr Hafiz Bin Salih, the Upper West Regional Minister, has called on Ghanaians to put all hands on deck towards consolidating the gains made after 66 years of independence.
He acknowledged the present challenges of the country and urged the public to have faith for a brighter future.
Dr Salih made the call at the 66th Independence Day Parade on Monday at Issa in the Daffiama-Bussie-Issa District of the Upper West Region.
It was on the theme: “Our Unity, Our Strength, Our Purpose”.
Scores of people from Issa and surrounding communities, including traditional leaders, led by the President of the Upper West Regional House of Chiefs, Naa Dikomwine Domalae, and heads of department, attended.
Captain Nana Boakye Donkor of the 10 Mechanised Battalion, commanded the parade of schools and security services with a joint regimental band from the Ghana Armed Forces and the Customs Division of the Ghana Revenue Authority.
Dr Salih received the salute from the security contingents – the Ghana Armed Forces, Police, Immigration, Fire, and Prisons services, and the Customs Division of the GRA.
The Daffiama-Bussie-Issa District Chief Executive, Mr Nadi Imoro Sanda, and the Acting Upper West Regional Director of Education, Mr Razak Abdul Korah, received the salute from the 580 school children from 16 schools and Cadet Corps from the Issa Technical Institute and Daffiama Senior High School.
DR Salih said: “We should be proud of our achievements and be optimistic of a brighter future despite the challenges we may be going through as a nation.”
“We need concerted efforts to reposition our country in the global economy, particularly now that we have attained the status of a middle-income country.”
He observed that the development of every nation was dependent on her human resource base, which had necessitated the massive investment in education by the government.
He thanked the security services for their unwavering commitment to maintaining the peace in the region and continuously defending the sovereign integrity of the nation.
The Minister also acknowledged the chiefs and people of the Upper West Region for staying united and continuously charting a common cause of development despite their tribal, religious, cultural, and political differences.
Some notable personalities who had contributed to the development of the region and the DBI district were recognised.
The best-performing schools and cadet corps in the march past were also awarded.
