Tema-Ghana, April 27, CDA Consult – Mr. Bright Oblitei Akwetey, a Legal Practitioner, has picked and paid the GHc20,000.00 nomination fee to run for the Convention People’s Party (CPP) Flagbearership position, which is tentatively scheduled for June 10th this year.
Mr. Akwetey, a senior CPP member, told reporters after collecting the nomination papers that the party needed a realistic Flagbearer to work with the party leadership to boost its fortunes in the 2024 elections.
“The CPP requires a Flagbearer who is dedicated, forward-thinking, disciplined, credible, and capable of radically transforming the current fragile party structures into a formidable, well-tuned election machinery,” he stated.
Mr. Akwetey feels that the CPP need “a Flag Bearer capable of removing the credibility gap created in the media by acts of omission and commission by some of the party’s leading members in recent times, as well as helping to build a united, strong, vibrant, and attractive party.”
Mr. Akwetey, a former Chief State Attorney in the Attorney General’s Department, expressed hope that his candidature will open a door for party members who have been hesitant to participate in party activities to reconsider.
“My candidature is a good omen and a golden opportunity for all Nkrumahists to join hands with him and the leadership at all levels to build a more disciplined party that is not based on individualistic ego.”
“CPP is larger than the sum of its members…”The party is fundamental, with the potential to reclaim lost decades for Ghana’s social development,” Mr Akwetey remarked.
According to the former Assistant Special Public Prosecutor, Ghana requires the CPP to rebuild its damaged sovereignty and economy.
“Ghana requires a massive psychological transformation and sustained efforts aimed at decolonizing the minds of leaders in all areas of the national development agenda in order to create a united and prosperous Ghana.”
“It is now more important than ever to put Nkrumah’s three pillars of self-determination, social justice, and pan-Africanism into action.” “It is more important than ever to demonstrate in the clearest terms possible that, after all, the black man is capable of managing his own affairs,” Mr. Akwetey said.
As a result, he urged all well-intentioned Ghanaians to join the CPP in order to restore the country’s socioeconomic status.
He expressed his willingness to lead the CPP to power, adding, “I am capable of marshalling a formidable force in the country with the ability to effectively shoulder shoulder with the flag bearers of the National Democratic Congress and the NPP.”
Mr. Akwetey added that throughout this time, he had critically evaluated the CPP and concluded that the party’s incapacity to establish its essential objectives, principles, and ideology had been its bane for unimpressive performance since the 1992 elections.
He said that the CPP would emphasise Kwame Nkrumah’s values as well as grass-roots membership recruitment to develop an electorate-friendly message.
The CPP has approved the following pricing for the flagbearership competition: GHc20,000.00 for nomination forms, GHc200,000.00 for filing fees, and GHc230.000.00 for grassroots mobilisation.
Nominations were opened from April 20 until May 11, 2023, with vetting scheduled for May 12 and 13, 2023, and the National Executive Council meeting scheduled for June 9, 2023.
The party’s Presidential Delegates Congress will take place on June 10, 2023, and its presidential candidates will be officially unveiled on June 12, 2023.
