Atimpoku (E/R)-Ghana, Aug. 12, GNA – Mr Paul Asare Ansah, former Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Ghana Ports and Harbours Authority, has filed nominations to contest the Asuogyaman parliamentary seat on the ticket of the New Patriotic Party (NPP).
He is, therefore, hopeful of being selected in the party’s parliamentary primaries slated for November 23, 2023.
Mr Asare is in a tight race with Mr Pius Enam Hadzide, CEO, National Youth Authority, and Nana Abrokwa Asare, Administrator of National Premix Fuel Secretariat.
He had contested in 2020 but lost in 145 polling stations to the incumbent National Democratic Congress Member of Parliament, Mr Thomas Ampem Nyarko.
However, he has vowed to capture the seat in 2024 after submitting his nomination papers to party executives at New Powmu in the Asuogyaman Constituency of the Eastern Region for the coming primaries.
“Asuogyaman district is lacking, like stagnant water, to the extent that poverty is looming over the people, mostly youth, so when they graduate from school, they move to urban cities like Tema, Accra, to hustle due to the lack of jobs,” he told the media.
“I’m coming to create jobs for the youth because they are the future leaders…”
“I will go to parliament and bring better plans and policies that will better our district in terms of job creation, a modern system of farming, and skills development for youth, and others.”
Mr Ansah said the district had been considered one of the tourist centres in the country, but all their roads were in a bad state, and that he would fix those roads when given the nod.
The Nana Akuffo Addo-led government, he said, had better plans for the district, and that was why he spent one billion US dollars to build both a railway, a port and a harbour to create jobs for the people of Asuogyaman, he said.
“Since I have experience in the maritime industry, I will make sure that the livelihoods of my people in Asuogyaman are better through this railway, port, and harbour, which will help in job creation and unemployment rate reduction.”
He urged his supporters to refrain from acrimonious politics and insults and unite as one family to win the seat.
