Tema-Ghana, Dec. 5, MNN – Mr. Mustapha Muhaze, who deals in fish rearing, livestock production, and the cultivation of crops among others has been adjudged as the Tema Metro Overall Best Farmer for the 2022 agricultural year.
Mr Muhaze was awarded with a tricycle, wheelbarrow, cutlasses, livestock feeds, and fishing nets, among others.
Mr. Abraham Odai, has been decorated as the Tema Metropolitan 2022 Metro Best Livestock Farmer of the year, while Mr Hassan Amudu won the Best Young Entrepreneur in farming and Madam Dove Mwofvour was adjudged the Best Fish Processor. The Best Inshore Fisher award was given to Mr Enoch Tetteh Mensah.
All the illustrious farmers were given agricultural implements and other products as part of the recognition for their meritorious services to Tema and the nation at large.
The distinguished farmers were decorated at the Tema Metropolitan Assembly’s commemoration of the 38th National Farmers Day, which is on the theme: “Accelerating Agricultural Development through Value Addition” at Kpeledjootsoshishi Tema Manhean.
Madam Esther Mbah, TMA Metropolitan Agricultural Director described it as a tremendous effort by farmers to produce to feed the nation and, therefore, admonished them to always participate in the assembly’s interventions.
She thanked the assembly for their hard work while encouraging farmers across the nation to invest and expand their production capacity to enable them produce on a large scale.
Mr. Muhaze also encouraged the youth to venture into farming to make a living.
Mr. Yohane Nii Armah Ashitey, Tema Metropolitan Chief Executive told newsmen in an interview that the Assembly has roll-out mechanism to do more for farmers in view of the tremendous role they play in the socio-economic development of the Tema Metropolis and the nation as a whole.
He said Tema has the capacity to produce and noted that the assembly is committed to growing the capacity of the small-holder farmers in the Tema Metropolis, to enhance their farming activities.
He said the government is committed to transforming the agricultural sector into a technological and business focus to serve as a guarantee for productivity, food security, and profitability and reduce post-harvest losses across the country.
Mr. Ashitey, therefore, commended the farmers and asks individuals and organizations to offer support and encourage farming in their activities in the Tema Metropolis.
