Ho-Ghana, Aug. 14, GNA – Ewe Habobo, a group of Ewe residents in Southern California, United States of America, has donated medicines to Bonita CHPS – compound, which takes care of patients of the Cured Lepers Village in Ho, the Volta Regional capital.
The medicines included savlon for wound dressing, oral rehydration solutions for treatment of dehydration, triple action cream for skin diseases, Citro-C for building patients’ immune system, dewormer, cough syrup and blood syrup.
Mr Semanu Mawugbe, the President of the Group, said the gesture was to help the facility to provide quality healthcare to the people in the Village to ensure good health.
He said the health of citizens was paramount in accelerating the socio-economic development of every country, hence the support to keep the facility running effectively.
Mr Mawugbe commended the health personnel for their hard work, commitment, love, and care for the patients and encouraged them to do more.
Mrs Eunice Ayeley Addo, a Senior Enrolled Nurse at the facility, commended the group for the support, saying the donation had come at the right time as medicines at the facility were not enough.
She disclosed to the Ghana News Agency that it received most of its drugs from individual donors and benevolent organisations and provided services to patients from three communities; Agortorme, Godokpoe and Freetown.
The major challenge bedeviling the facility was lack of drugs to provide the optimum health services to clients.
She said when patients came and the drugs were not available, they referred them to the Polyclinic and the Ho Teaching Hospital, but due to financial challenges most of them were not able to afford the services at those facilities.
The facility also lacked folders for keeping patients’ records, so they were compelled to use A4 sheets or exercise books for that purpose and appealed for support to address the problems.
The Ewe Habobo is a not-for -profit Non-Governmental Organisation (NGO) of Ewe-speaking people residing in Southern California.
The group is a member of the Conference of Ewe Speaking Association of North America, which has over the years helped build schools, clinics, and bridges in some communities in Volta and Oti regions and some parts of Togo and Benin.
