Krobo-Ghana, Dec. 8, GNA – The Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) is to extend its prepaid metre installation to other communities within its Krobo District in 2024.
Mr. Christopher Apawu, the ECG Krobo District Manager, disclosed this at a media engagement and said customers in the Akrade and Atimpoku communities of the district would, from the second quarter of 2024, have their post-paid metres changed to prepaid metres.
Mr. Apawu said that the installation of the prepaid metres in the Yilo and Lower Manya Krobo areas was still ongoing to capture every customer.
He stated that the process for the extension of the exercise had already begun with pre-installation surveys and community education on how the metres work.
He said the pre-installation surveys would soon be carried out in Akuse and Asutsuare, as they all formed part of the jurisdiction of the Krobo District of the power distribution company.
He revealed that over 10,000 metres would be installed for customers in all these areas, adding that the replacement would be done free of charge to the customer as the ECG would bear the cost.
Mr. Apawu explained that metre replacements were different from new service requests; therefore, while replacements were free of charge, new service requests were at a fee.
He cautioned customers not to install unauthorised metres in anticipation that they would be replaced during the exercise, as such an act was illegal, adding that the company already has data on all the metres to be replaced and therefore any new addition would be identified and culprits dealt with accordingly.
While calling on the public to support the ECG in its operations, he said a cordial relationship existed between his outfit and the customers in the district.
“Our revenue is improving, and it is hoped that customer service will keep improving for better customer experiences,” he added.
