A 32-year-old woman identified as Yahaya Jamila, met her untimely death in a tragic accident on Monday evening at Bediako, Kpone-Katamanso, along the Tema-Mpakadan Railway Line.
Eyewitnesses said the woman was run over by the train, which was moving at high speed, crushing her head in the process.
They told the Ghana News Agency (GNA) that the victim was attempting to cross the railway tracks with a young boy, believed to be about two years old, when the unfortunate incident happened.
While details remain unclear, some witnesses suggested that the boy might have strayed toward the tracks, and in an attempt to rescue him, the woman got trapped.
Others claimed she was wearing earphones and might not have heard the approaching train’s horn in time.
The train stopped a few meters away after the incident but resumed its journey shortly after, leaving the woman’s mutilated body behind.
The Community 25 Police have since commenced investigations into the accident, confirming the incident.
Authorities are yet to release an official statement on the incident, but concerns have been raised about safety measures along the railway line, to prevent a recurrence of such accidents in the future.
