Ho-Ghana, Aug. 13, GNA – Ewe Habobo of Southern California in the United States of America has supported the Cured Lepers Village in Ho in the Volta Region with some assorted items.
The items included bags of rice, bags of beans, bags of sugar, bags of wheat, a carton of milk, toiletries, cartons of tin mackerel, sachets of washing powder, bags of corn, cartoon of cooking oil, cartoon of biscuits and some medicines.
The group is a non-profit non-governmen organisation (NGO) of Ewe-speaking people residing in Southern California.
Ms Joy Agama, who presented the items on behalf of the organisation asked the beneficiaries to use the items judiciously.
She told the Ghana News Agency she was impressed with the transformation in the Village as the people themselves were engaged in some form of economic activities to support their livelihoods.
Ms Agama described the efforts by the people as encouraging, and urged them to continue, saying, this would make them not to solely rely on charity for their survival.
Mrs Edith August, President of the group in a speech read on her behalf said the donation formed part of their social responsibility, in contributing to enhancing the well-being of the citizens.
She said it was important to carry everyone along in the development drive and one way to do that she noted was to put smiles on the faces of the disadvantaged in society by showing them love and care.
Mrs August disclosed that the main purpose of the group was to work towards the welfare of members, ensure unity within themselves and support the development of their homeland.
She said the group is a member of the Conference of Ewe Speaking Association of North America (CEANA), which has over the years helped build schools, clinics, and bridges in some communities in Volta and Oti regions and some parts of Togo and Benin.
Mr Nelson Atito, caretaker of the Cured Lepers Village thanked the Ewe Habobo for the gesture and appealed to other organisations to support the Village in similar ways.
