Accra-Ghana, Nov. 15, GNA – An Accra High Court (Criminal Court 3) has prohibited picketing / demonstration at the Revolution Square by Arise Ghana, a pressure group.
This was after it had heard an application between Arise Ghana – Bernard Mornah and Rex Owusu Omar (respondents) and Deputy Superintendent of Police Isaac N.K. Yeboah of the Greater Accra Regional Police Headquarters of the Ghana Police Service.
The court presided over by Justice Mary M. E. Yanzuh ordered the respondents to relocate their intended picketing /demonstration from the Revolution Square to the Independence Square.
“It is here by ordered that the intended picketing / demonstration shall be held at the Independence Square from the 15th to the 17th of November 2022 from Midday to 16 hours each day. ”
This was after it heard the submissions of Deputy Superintend of Police (DSP) Sylvester Asare, counsel for the applicant, and Godwin Kudzo Tamakloe being led by Martin Kpebu, for the respondents.
Arise Ghana had planned a three-day picketing at the Revolution Square from November 15 to 17, this year.
The Police objected to the picketing at the Revolution Square on the grounds that the venue posed a security threat and same would endanger public safety and violate the rights of other persons.
