Bompieso (W/R)-Ghana, Aug 25, GNA – The Management of Ghana Cocoa Board (COCOBOD) in the Western Region, has lauded the efforts of Mr Kwame Alex, a cocoa farmer from Bompieso for the hand pollination exercise of his cocoa farms.
Making the commendation during a field tour in the Huni-Valley District, the Manager of COCOBOD, Mr. Samuel Osei told Ghana News Agency that Mr. Kwame Alex had hand pollinated his 2.83-hectare farm made up of 3,085 cocoa trees and 115 average pods at Bompieso.
He was in the Huni-Valley District to assess the extent of artificial hand pollination of cocoa farms in the area and reminded farmers to take a cue from Mr Alex who had painstakingly manually pollinated his 2.83 -hectare farm in a bid to increase yield.
Speaking to GNA in an interview, Mr Alex who won the National Best Youth Cocoa Farmer award, said he had hand pollinated all his 110-hectare cocoa farms dotted in the Huni-Valley District.
According to him, he became a school dropout in Primary Six, but the cocoa business had changed his economic fortunes.
He told GNA that he would continue to expand his base with all the necessary Agricultural practices to win the National Best Cocoa Farmer award.
He therefore advised all cocoa farmers to make hand pollination exercise part of their farming activities.
