Yeji (BE/R), Dec 8, GNA – Nana Pimampim Yaw Kabrese, President of the Bono East Regional House of Chiefs has expressed his unhappiness about the numerous Chieftaincy disputes that has affected unity and retarded development in the area.
He said The Bono East Regional House of Chiefs comprises of 19 Traditional Councils with a total membership of 12, but only nine traditional councils were active because of the chieftaincy issues.
Nana Pimampim Yaw Kabrese, expressed the concern on Friday in an interview with the Ghana News Agency at Yeji, Pru East District and hinted that the region started with 14 judicial cases transferred from the former Brong Ahafo House of Chiefs but have now been increased to about 37 cases pending adjudication and has become difficult to compromise.
He further pleaded with the remaining Paramouncies with disputes to try in all means to settle them settle amicably with immediate effect to foster unity in the communities.
Mr Kwasi Adu Gyan, Bono East Regional Minister appealed to the chiefs to resolve their differences to sustain peace because chieftaincy issues in the areas was not just a threat to the peace but has the potentials to impede development in the affected areas.
The Regional Minister who is also the Chairman for the Bono East Regional Security Council expressed anxiety about the pertinent disputes in the area including the tension between farmers and the herdsmen and called on the Chiefs who were custodians of the lands to help the RESEC to address conflicts forever.
