Adidome, (V/R)-Ghana, Sept. 23, GNA – The Central Tongu District Office of the National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE) has engaged over 200 students from selected Civic Education Clubs on an educational tour.
The students from Model Girls, Globeserve, Akyemfo D/A, Evangelical Presbyterian, and Global Junior High Schools, familiarised themselves with the works of the Ambulance Service and the Community Water and Sanitation Agency in the district.
The tour forms part of the Commission’s strategies to promote education in the district.
Mr George Amey, Central Tongu District Director of NCCE disclosed to the Ghana News Agency (GNA) that the tour would offer the beneficiaries the chance to help get a first-hand information on things they learnt in the classrooms.
He said the tour would help the students to be more enlightened on the operations of the National Ambulance Service in saving lives as well as services rendered by the Community Water and Sanitation Agency.
Mr Amey said it was expected that after the tour, the students would have more knowledge that would help them academically.
He noted that Article 41 (k) of the 1992 Constitution enjoined citizens to protect and safeguard the environment hence it was a step in the right direction to get the students on a tour that would give them more insights on the environment and their roles to safeguard.
Mr Joel Kafui Mortey, Production Manager, Community Water and Sanitation Agency took the students through the facility and showed them how various machineries were operated to generate clean and safe water for consumption in the district.
Mr Torgbor Nii Arbenser, the District Officer of the Ambulance Service, enlightened the tourists on the roles of the Service within the district.
He also taught them how to offer basic first aid at home and in their various communities whilst tudents and their teachers expressed joy for participating in the tour.
They appealed to the District Commission to continue carrying out quarterly education to help boost knowledge about operations of the various district agencies.
