Ho-Ghana, July 1, GNA – Mr. Seth Korgah, an elder at the Evangelical Central Chapel of the Assemblies of God Church, Ho Ahoe, has authored a 213-page book to help guide the development of the Church’s Sunday School concept.
The Adult Sunday School Handbook explores Sunday school as a ministry, strives to outline the ideal Sunday school teacher, and produces several strategies to get members involved.
Mr Korgah, also an Educationist and Head of the University of Health and Allied Sciences Basic School, at the launch, said he hoped the book would help improve Sunday school as a major ministry of the Kingdom of God.
He said the book was divinely inspired “to leave something for the work of God,” and should help ensure that the Sunday school which served the great commission and was a popular concept in many churches, was “done and done very well”.
“Sunday School is not for children’s service alone, and it is important that everybody connected to the Sunday school uses the resource to develop the school.
“I believe the hand of God is on the book,” the author said, adding that it should be patronised by pastors, Sunday school teachers and others in the ministry.
Reverend Eric Seyram Anku, Senior Associate Pastor, who launched the book, said the author should be encouraged to produce more faith-based literature.
He led an auction of the first copies of the book, which saw patronage by many present, including leadership of the University of Health and Allied Sciences (UHAS).
Mr Joseph Hormenya, Former Regional Chairman of the NPP, who is the Regional Director of the NHIS, bought the first copy for GHC 1,000 while the rest attracted generous patronage.
Professor Lydia Aziato, Vice Chancellor of UHAS, who chaired the launch, prayed that everyone would read the book and apply the knowledge and the skills.
She called for support for the book and said that despite the present economic crisis, people found value in reading, and would reap the benefits.
“This book should help us take Sunday school seriously. Sunday school is engaging and provides nourishment for the whole week,” the Vice Chancellor said.
Mr Divine Bosson, Ho Municipal Chief Executive, also commended the effort and praised the church for playing active role in advancing potential in the Municipality.
The church had produced its second faith-themed movie, which would soon be premiered.
The author of the book, speaking to the GNA on the sidelines, said the script had taken about a year to manifest as he juggled work and writing, and shared challenges including limited research resources on the subject.
He said topics including on how to grow the ministry to become professional, and a chapter investigates the Christ, should interest the church and its handlers, adding that the book relayed more than 80 strategies for active participation in the Sunday school service.
Mr Korgah noted how high printing costs challenged writers and the publishing industry as a whole and was grateful for the encouragement from patrons at the launch.
The book would be available in major bookshops in the country, and on Amazon and other online sales outlets.
