Mr Jacscot Hawkins Alhassan, the Bono Regional Secretary for the Council of Zongo Chiefs, confirmed it to Ghana News Agency (GNA) and added that the death happened on Wednesday evening of December 25, 2024.
Describing it as a shock and bad news, he said the late chief Imam died at his private residence in Sunyani. He left four wives with a number of children.
Checks revealed that the late Coulibaly was enstooled as the Regional Chief Imam in 2002 and reigned for 22 years.
During a visit to the Zongo Community in Sunyani on Thursday, some of the Muslims told the GNA they were saddened about the sudden loss of an ‘inspiring Muslim leader.’
The death of the Chief Imam remained the trending topic in the Zongo community, as mostly Muslim women were noticed discussing it.
Meanwhile, nightlife in Sunyani, the Bono Regional capital, had been characterised with lively atmosphere and vibrancy since Christmas Eve, December 24, as merry-makers filled trendy bars refreshing themselves with cocktails.
During a round visit, the GNA noticed that some nightclubs in the capital entertained highly excited celebrants with pulsating music, while others pubs provided live bands entertainment throughout the nights.
The Xmas fever has however, created a dynamic and fun-filled environment for merry-makers in the capital.
Groovy, a funky and vibrant bar situated in the heart of the capital was also cashing in day and night as operators offered great vibes to entertain visitors, mostly young people.
The night experience at Cabin’s Lounge, a cocktail bar, remained exceptional as merry-makers thronged there to celebrate the season.
“It is now good to celebrate the Xmas in Sunyani because nightlife is vibrant now.” a celebrant, Kofi Emmanuel told the GNA.
The festive season in the capital has also created a field day for taxi drivers and tricycle riders (Pragyia), leveraging on the season to cash-in.
A cabbie, John Gyeabour who used the Abesim-Sunyani stretch, said his day and night sales had doubled in the season, however added that poor lighting in parts of the municipality was making night work dangerous.
He therefore called on the Sunyani Municipal Assembly to improve the lighting and security systems.
Sulemana Musah, a popular pragyia rider also confirmed that the demand for their services had increased, creating opportunities for them to increase their profit margins in the season as well.
