During the launch, Mr Zaya Yeebo, founder of the foundation, stated that government alone could not address all challenges confronting the vulnerable and that there was the need for support from other stakeholders.
He said the region abounds with potential including basket weaving, traditional smock weaving, sheanuts among others and said the challenge to harness this resource for development was the required skills to put them into good use, create market links and capitals.
He said the Foundation as part of its activities would build the capacity of vulnerable women and scout for capital for them to start small scale businesses to help cater for themselves and their children.
Mr Yeebo mentioned the inability of many vulnerable women especially widows and single mothers to pay their children’s school fees as a worrisome phenomenon and indicated that his outfit will be collaborating with state and other partners such as NGOs in the region and beyond to address such challenges.
He noted that plans were far advanced to engage in fund raising activities to help address the challenges of the vulnerable women in the region.
Ms. Anatu Ibrahim, Guest Speaker for the occasion, expressed worry about the waywardness of children in some parts of the country and stressed the need for NGOs to collaborate by working hard to curb teenage pregnancy, drug abuse, and prostitution among youth in the region.
“The future of the country will be bleak if we parents fail to nurture our children to become responsible future leaders”, she stressed.
Mr Mark Nawane, an official of the new NGO, expressed concern about irresponsible parenting and stressed that the Boaba Children Foundation would embark upon sensitisation programmes to educate such parents on the need to honour their responsibility of child upbringing.
Mr James Kumbeni, also one of the NGO officials, stated that as part of the implementation activities, the NGO would have a youth wing that will play advocacy roles in raising awareness of the plight of the vulnerable and to look for support for them.
Dr Akamboe Ayirebasia, who chaired the launching ceremony, entreated the NGO to partner with other stakeholders in the region to make the dream of the NGO come through.
