Biyalsis Gurutaaba, a Social Club Group, based in Bolgatanga of the Upper East Region, has donated different consignments of medicines to the Pediatric unit of the Regional Hospital in Bolgatanga worth GH₡10,000.00.
Additionally, the Social Club Group also made a presentation of GH₡10,000.00 to a fund established by the management of the Pediatric unit to cater for needy children whose parents could not afford their health needs.
Presenting the medical items and the cash donation to the management of the facility, Mr John Asana, President of the Club, stated that the donation was in response to one of the group members who happened to be working in the facility.
The President indicated that the group was moved to make the donation because of the plight of some children in facility and the fact that many parents could not settle their medical bills and had to take their children back home from the facility.
He stressed that the group, which is made up of different professionals, including medical doctors, academicians, and lawyers, among others, last year undertook a medical outreach programme in Namoo in the Bongo District in the Region and also donated consignment of medicines worth thousands of Ghana Cedis to health facilities in the area.
He stated that the group would continue to undertake its humanitarian services in the region and beyond and urged other groups to do same, stressing that government alone cannot address the developmental challenges.
Receiving the items and cash donation on behalf of Management of the facility, Dr Gillian Bogee, the Regional Newborn Focal Person, thanked the group for the kind gestures and stressed that the donation and presentation came at the right time.
She reiterated instances where the facility had run out of some consumables to cater for the sick children and also indicated that there were some instances where some parents could not settle the medical bills of their children.
This, she noted, prompted management to set up a fund to help those parents and appealed to the public to emulate the example of Biyalsis Gurutaaba by also contributing to the fund.
She further mentioned some of the needs of the facility, such as lack of space for the neonatal babies and stated that the facility admitted neonatal babies beyond the region.
She appealed to government and development partners to support to expand the facility and to also post more qualified nurses and medical doctors with specialties to the region to help address the health challenges.
